Open windows

There's a large gray building. A few closed shutters line the sidewalk, and above them a row of twelve closed windows. Covered not by shutters or blinds, but by brick and plaster. They seem simply waiting to be opened by the imagination.

We wander around the city – ours, Cremona, but we could be in any city – and we find another closed window, another and another, all inexplicably bricked up. What's hiding behind there?

We want to bring some of these windows to life, opening them up to new life, by telling ourselves a story: what's inside that window? A family having dinner? A costume party? Children playing? A dog waiting for its owner?

Open Windows is not just an open-air exhibition, but also an opportunity to discover some unusual corners of the city, an opportunity to raise your head to discover what lies just above it.
The first step will be to identify the windows to open, requesting permission from the owners, but also welcoming requests from those owners who, upon learning of this project, wish to open their windows. We will select 20 (or more, if the fundraising exceeds our expectations).

The installation will be carried out without any masonry work or alterations to the building's current condition. A catalogue will be published following the initiative, featuring the illustrations and the "stories" they tell, along with contextual photographs.
The exhibition will be inaugurated while walking through the city, accompanied by the artists involved, who will be able to explain how they imagined and created their work.

To support the project, you can make a donation on the eppela platform. Donations can be made by credit card (Visa or Mastercard, including prepaid cards) or by bank transfer. Unfortunately, PayPal is not supported, so to make it easier for those who wish to use this method, we've added the option to donate via PayPal on this page. The donation amount is optional; there are a number of options. variable rewards (which can be see here) based on the amount donated.

    • Hi Marialucia, we're so glad you like the project! We haven't decided which illustrators to select for the windows yet, but we'll definitely consider any applications we receive, like yours!
      Thank you!
